该数据集由The Marmoset Brain Connectivity Atlas Project输出,主要由澳大利亚莫纳什大学的Marcello Rosa实验室和波兰Nencki institute of Experimental Biology的神经信息学实验室合作进行。
对神经连接的研究基于被称为神经解剖学示踪剂的物质。在一个典型的实验中,首选通过麻醉条件下的外科手术使用精密的微量注射器在一个大脑部位注射几百纳升的示踪剂;示踪剂分子在细胞外介质中扩散,并被附近的神经元吸收。在几天的时间里,这些分子沿着轴突迁移,揭示了连接远端大脑部位的“桥梁”。这些实验可以揭示位于毫米或厘米之外的小神经元群之间的连接,而忽略了绝大多数的中间细胞和相邻细胞。
